Rail Ka Dibba (1953) Storyline

The movie Rail Ka Dibba is about four friends.  Sunder (played by Shammi Kapoor) is a poor young man who makes a living by displaying advertisements from advertisers on his body.  He is paid on a daily basis by advertisers for his efforts. Chanda (played by Madhubala) is a frustrated poor girl who worked as a maid in different houses but was unable to sustain her job as her employers would often throw her out of her job on some pretext or the other. Being an orphan and nobody to support her she decides to give her life. She is saved by Sunder who takes her to his place which is an abandoned train bogie.  He calls the bogie his house. He encourages Chanda not to be sad as he himself is an orphan and poor and has two more friends who are in the same boat. Sunder’s friend Mohan was also a homeless man who was rescued by Sunder. Dr. Nirogi (played by Om Prakash) is another person who lives with Sunder and Mohan. He was a magician and showman who too became unemployed.

Sunder, Chanda, Mohan and Dr. Nirogi start living together and share a strong bond. They live and earn for each other.  Mohan’s luck takes a positive turn when he is offered to work for a daily newspaper for which he would be paid Rs. 300 per month which is a handsome amount.  He buys some gifts for his friends with the advance money he received for the job. All four friends decide to go to the beachside to savor the moment. While Dr. Nirogi and Mohan leave for some work Chanda and Sunder realise their love for each other. They marry secretly without telling either their friends Dr. Nirogi and Mohan.

Some time later Mohan too confesses his love to Chanda but Chanda reveals to Mohan that she is married to Sunder. When Mohan learns about Sunder and Chanda’s secret marriage he is infuriated and engages in a verbal fight with Sunder. Later the fight gets physical and Sunder drags Mohan to the railway track in a fit of rage.

In the end movie ends on a happy note as Sunder and Mohan become friends again.
