Alisha Chinai: The Enigmatic Voice that Charmed the Music World

Born on March 18, 1965, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Alisha Chinai displayed her passion for music from a young age. Recognizing her talent, her parents encouraged her to pursue her musical aspirations, and thus began her journey toward stardom. Alisha started her career as a playback singer in the early 1980s, lending her voice to numerous Hindi  language films. However, it was her collaboration with the iconic music director Bappi Lahiri that catapulted her into the limelight.

Alisha Chinai made a name for herself as an Independent artist. She was the Pop Icon of the 80’s and 90’s and gave multiple hit albums.  Her albums Babydoll, Aah Alisha, Madonna, and Kamasutra were all platinum-selling albums, and their cassettes sold like hot cakes. She was regarded as the queen of Indi Pop and her fame was second to none. With her unique style and fashion-forward image, Alisha became a trendsetter, inspiring a generation of aspiring musicians.

Alisha Chinai’s association with music composer Bappi Lahiri started with the movie Adventures of Tarzan (1985). The title song “Tarzan Tarzan” sung by her was a huge hit.  She sang the famous song “Zooby Zooby” for the movie Dance Dance starring Mithun Chakraborty, Smita Patil, and Mandakini. The song became an instant hit and gave a big boost to Alisha’s singing career. Alisha worked with several other music composers of Bollywood like Laxmikant Pyarelal, Anu Malik, Anand Milind, and Shanker Ehsan Loy.

The famous sensuous song “Kate Nahi Kat te Din Ye Raat” composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal from the movie Mr. India starring Sridevi and Anil Kapoor is one of her biggest hits. She sang this duet song with the legendary Kishore Kumar. Alisha sang the song “Raat Bhar Jaam Se Jaam Takrayega” for the super hit multi-starer movie Tridev.

In the 90’s Alisha collaborated with music composer Leslie Lewis for the album “Bombay Girl“. This album was an enormous success and included hit songs like “Bombay Girl” and “De De”. UK-based music producer Biddu worked with Alisha for the superhit music album “Made In India“. This song featured famous Male Model Milind Sonam and became quite a rage. Alisha gave playback for the song “Ruk Ruk Are Baba Ruk” from the movie Vijaypath starring Tabu and Ajay Devgn. This song in Alisha’s voice too weaved its magic and became an instant hit.

Despite her immense success, Alisha Chinai’s journey has not been without challenges. She faced criticism for her bold and unconventional image, but she remained undeterred, focusing on her music and constantly reinventing herself. Alisha’s ability to adapt to changing musical trends and experiment with different genres kept her relevant in an industry that is notorious for its fickleness.

Over the years, Alisha Chinai has received numerous accolades and awards for her contributions to the Indian music industry. She has won the Filmfare Award for best female playback Singer for the song” Kajra Re Kajra Re” composed by Shanker Ehsaan Loy for the movie Bunty Babli starring Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai.  She received recognition from prestigious institutions like the MTV Video Music Awards. Her popularity transcends borders, and she has performed in concerts across the globe, mesmerizing audiences with her electrifying stage presence and powerful vocals.

Alisha is presently in relationship with Furkat Azamov, a music producer from Tajikistan. She was previously married to her manager Rajesh Jhaveri.
