Parineeta is a romantic and dramatic 1953 Hindi movie of the black-and-white era. The movie stars Meena Kumari, Ashok Kumar, Nasir Hussain, and Asit Baran in lead roles. Badri Prasad, Manorama, Pratibha Devi, and Rekha Malik also play significant roles in the movie. This movie directed by highly acclaimed director Vimal Roy is based on the popular Bengali novel Parineeta written by Sarat Chand Chattopadhyay. Actor Ahsok Kumar who plays the lead role has also produced the movie. Music for the movie is composed by Manna Dey and Arjun Kumar Mukherjee.
Parineeta Storyline
Lalita (Meena Kumari) lives with her uncle Gurucharan (Nasir Hussain) who is a poor clerk. He looks after Lalita as she is an orphan. Shekhar the son of a landlord develops a liking for Lalita. Gurucharan who is financially weak needs to get one of his daughters married. He is already debt-ridden and in dire need of money. Shekhar’s father often reminds him of the money due to him. Gurucharan meets Girin (Asit Baran) a kind and noble-hearted man. He offers Gurucharan loan without paying any interest. Gurucharan readily accepts the offer. A false perception is created in society, that in a deal between Gurucharan and Girin, Lalita has been sold to Girin. Shekhar thinks that Lalita has married Girin. But Lalita discloses to Girin just before marriage that she is already married and she cannot marry him. In the end, the misunderstanding between Lalita and Shekhar is cleared as Girin reveals that he did not marry Lalita. Shekhar introduces Lalita to her mother as her daughter-in-law who readily accepts Lalita in her family.
